Unsettled central-northern Europe; gales, rain and snow


Saturday
Southwest Europe stays dry, with winter sunshine for Spain and Portugal, nearing 20C in the south. The west and central Mediterranean should be dry with sunshine, including much of Italy. Low pressure to the east brings unsettled and showery conditions to Greece and Turkey.
A breezy day for France, with possible gales near the English Channel. Rain or drizzle affects northern France, with some persistent rain preceded by snow for Germany, as milder air moves in from the west. Snow also affects the Czech Republic and Poland.
Scandinavia stays very cold - northern areas remaining in the deep freeze with daytime values -15C to -20C or below in the far north. Some snow flurries, but much of Norway and southern Sweden should be dry.


Sunday
A deep area of low pressure affects northwestern Europe, bringing heavy rain and mountain snow to France and the western Alps. Gales or severe gales affect Biscay and English Channel coasts. Rain and snow also reaches northern Spain, whilst southern Iberia stays sunny and warm.
Breezy with a few showers for the Mediterranean, although Greece should see a brighter day. Heavy rain moves east to affect Cyprus. Balkan regions, plus Hungary to the Black Sea will be largely dry with temperatures 1 to 5C.
Areas of rain and hill snow for Germany and Poland. Snow and gales affects Denmark and southern parts of Norway and Sweden. Staying extremely cold across much of Scandinavia.
