Cool & showery northern Europe

Thursday
A waving frontal system extends from southern Iberia across central-southern Europe into eastern countries. Showery rain for southern Spain, and later the far south of Portugal. Northern Iberia should be dry, but breezy and cool. Low pressure over northern Italy brings persistent rain and blustery winds, which also affects the northern Balkans. Heavy rain for Switzerland and Austria, plus further snow for the Alps. Showers for the western Mediterranean. Warm and dry for southern Italy, Greece and areas around the Black Sea, highs around 25C across south-eastern Europe. A band of rain for the border regions of Poland and Ukraine. Cool across north-western Europe, just 10 to 12C for northern France, the Low Countries and Germany, with scattered showers. A shallow low resides over southern Scandinavia, bringing slow moving wintry showers. Northern Scandinavia should be mainly dry but cold.

Friday
Low pressure centred south-west of Iberia is expected to bring heavy rain and possible thunder to southern regions of Spain and Portugal. Northern and eastern Iberia should stay dry. Another low across central & south-eastern Europe brings areas of heavy rain and showers to Alpine countries, the Balkans, plus the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Dry and warm conditions continue around the Black Sea and also Greece. Showers are likely in Italy, whilst southern France sees a strong Mistral wind. Scattered showers for northern France and the Low Countries, whilst areas toward the Pyrenees will be dry. A shallow low over southern Scandinavia brings further rain and snow to southern Norway and Sweden, whilst high pressure over northern Scandinavia maintains settled weather for the far north.
